Two docked over cultism

Two suspected cult members, Francis Adeyelu and Abiodun Dare, have been arraigned before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo City

The Hope Metro gathered from the court that the suspects, who are standing trial over a three-count charge, allegedly belong to cult societies identified as Aiye and Eye confraternity.

The charge read in part: “That you Francis Adeyele on the same date, time, place in the aforementioned magisterial district found to be member of Aye fraternity (secret cult society) and unlawful secret and thereby committed an offence) contrary to section 62 and punishable under section 63 of the Criminal Code Cap 37,  Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

“That you Abiodun Dare, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district was found to be members of the Eye fraternity (secret unit society) and unlawful society and thereby committed an offence contrary to 62 and punishable under section 63 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The pleas of the accused persons were not taken,  while the police prosecutor , Mr Adebiyi Abiodun urged the court to remand them at Segede Prison to enable him seek legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Abiodun asked for an adjournment. pending the outcome of the legal advice from the DPP’s office .

Counsel for the accused, Mr P O Afolayan did not raise objection to his clients being remanded in prison.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Damilola Sekoni ordered the remand of the accused persons at the police custody of the Area Command, in Yaba, till next adjourned date in  February 13, 2019.
