An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded two friends, Mebinoeni Taiwo and Damilare Sodiq, over allegations of stealing two motorcycles.
The defendants appeared before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni on a four-count charge of theft.
Prosecution counsel C.C. Ude informed the court that the alleged offences took place on two separate occasions.
The first incident occurred on November 15, 2024, around midnight, at No. 5 Cherubim and Seraphim, along Ebute Road, Ode-Irele, where the defendants allegedly stole a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N380,000, belonging to one Olugotun Oluwafemi.
The second incident was said to have taken place on January 10, 2025, at about 5:00 a.m., at No. 10 Idogun Street, Ode-Irele, where the duo allegedly stole a black Boxer motorcycle worth N350,000.
Ude stated that the offences contravene Sections 383, 390(9), and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution applied for a remand order to allow the police to complete their investigations.
Defence counsel, Lawrence Onu, did not oppose the application but urged the court to grant his clients bail, assuring that they would not abscond.
Magistrate Sekoni granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties were required to provide an affidavit of means and submit two passport photographs.
As the defendants failed to meet their bail conditions, they were remanded in Amotekun custody.
The case was adjourned until February 24, 2025 for further hearing.
