Two men, who allegedly snatched a bag containing N500,000 from a trader, have been arraigned before the Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ondo city.
The first accused, a 22-year-old farmer, Femi Sunday and one Peter Okafor, were dragged before the court for conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecution said the duo snatched one bag containing the sum of N500,000, property of one Akinnola Olanrewaju, on February 8,2 019 at about 8pm at Idi-shin area, Yaba Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District.
They are facing a two- count charge bothering on snatching of bag and conspiracy. They however pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
According to the police prosecutor, Adebiyi Abiodun, the offence contravened section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Abiodun, who told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Lawyer for the accused person, P O Afolayan, applied for the bail of his clients in most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Damilola Sekoni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000, with one surety each in like sum.
He said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must show evidence of payment of tax for the current year, attached affidavit of means, passport of the defendants and sureties must be attached.
He adjourned the case till February 22, 2019 for trial.
