The Ondo State Police have arraigned two men before an Akure Magistrates’ Court on charges of burglary and theft of electric cables valued at N3.9 million.
Ibrahim Martin, 20, and Joshua Amos, 21, are in trouble for allegedly breaking and entering the home of Adeniyi Abiodun on the night of August 22, 2024.
The duo, alongside an accomplice still on the run, reportedly struck in the early hours at about 2:30 a.m. in Alagbaka Extension, Akure.
Police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenimhen laid bare the charges of conspiracy, felony, burglary, and theft, citing violations of Sections 516 and 412 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State 2006.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, both men pleaded not guilty.
Inspector Omhenimhen announced plans to call two witnesses to testify and sought a date to assemble them and review the case file.
Defence counsel, E.D. Alade, supported the request for a hearing date and sought bail on generous terms, promising the court that the defendants would present credible sureties.
Magistrate O.T. Lebi granted bail of N500,000 each, requiring one surety of the same amount.
The case is set to resume on November 5, 2024 for a ruling on the bail application.
