Two men have been sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo for stealing of school properties worth N155,000.
The defendants; Abdulateef Magaji, 30, and Emmanuel Akinde,22, were arraigned on three counts bothering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benard Olagbayi said the convict committed the offence on May 21,2023, at about 11:30 pm at Rheo Kiddies school, Sabo market area Ondo, in Ondo Magisterial district.
The charge read in parts,” That you, Abdulateef Magaji and Emmanuel Akinde on May 21,2023 at about 11:30 am at Sabo market area Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony to wit entering and stealing.
“That you, Abdulateef Magaji and Emmanuel Akinde on May 22,2023 at about 3:am at Adekugbe Street Sabo, Ondo in the aforementioned Magisterial district did criminally and unlawfully jumped the fence of Rheo Kiddies School into the school compound and committed a felony there in.
“That you, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did criminally and unlawfully entered into the Rheo Kiddies school’s store and carted away the following items: one wheel barrow valued N20,000, one electrocardiogram machine (egg machine) valued N80,000, one head pan valued N5,000, corner iron valued N20,000, four window net with frame valued N20,000, some quantities of electrical wires valued N1,000, some quantities of mesh wire valued N 1,000, total valued N155,000 properties of the school.
According to the charge, the offence contravenes Sections 516, 413(1) and 356(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The defendants, however, pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against them.
The prosecutor prayed the court to sentence the convicts according to their plea.
Chief Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju convicted the defendants and thereafter sentenced them to three years imprisonment with an option of fine of N200,000 each.
