Two remanded for kidnapping, armed robbery

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of two persons for alleged kidnapping and robbery.

The defendants; Onyolu Lawrence, 25, and Ckukus Emaka, 30 were arraigned for unlawful possession of weapons, armed robbery and kidnapping.

The duo allegedly committed the offence between August and September, 2022 at llu Abo via Oba-lle in Akure.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sofiyegha F.Timi told the court that the defendants, while armed with knife and other dangerous weapons robbed one Ayodele Omotayo of his Infinix hot 12 handset valued at N89,000 and cash sum of N852,000.

He said the defendants also kidnapped one Oluwafemi Adesanya Sanmi, took him to an uncompleted building at llu-Abo via Oba-lle  in Akure North local government area of Ondo State and compelled his family to pay N145,000 as ransom for his release.

The offences committed is contrary to and punishable under Section 516(A), 1 (1) 2 (a&b), 1 (a) & 2 (a &b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap 147, Vol.4, Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.

The defence counsel, M.I Ejide prayed the court for  an adjournment to enable him reply the prosecutor’s application on the point of law.

In her ruling, Magistrates R.A Olumilua ordered that the accused persons be remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the legal advice from DPP.

The case was thereafter adjourned till November 11, for advice.
