The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has arraigned two men, Joseph Ponnan and Sanni Abubakar, before an Akure Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly breaking into a school and stealing metal burglary proofs.

The defendants were docked on a two-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.

According to the prosecuting officer, D.S Msonter Shagba, the alleged crime occurred on May 5, 2025, around 8:00 p.m. at Joyland High School, Akure.

The prosecution told the court that the first defendant, Ponnan, unlawfully broke into the school premises and stole two window burglar-proofs valued at N80,000, property of one Olayinka Tomogun.

Shagba further alleged that the second defendant, Abubakar, received the stolen items from Ponnan, knowing full well they were illegally obtained.

The offences were said to contravene Sections 383, 390(9), and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

When the charges were read, both men pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, who said she had prepared witnesses, sought an adjournment to enable her review the case file.

Defence counsel, Mr. N.J. Osele, urged the court to admit his clients to bail in lenient terms.

In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

He added that the sureties must present an affidavit of means and two passport photographs.

However, the defendants were remanded in the custody of Amotekun Corps as they failed to meet their bail conditions.
