Two suspected motorcycles’ robbers nabbed in Ekiti

Ekiti State Police Command at the weekend said it has arrested two persons who specialize in hijacking motorcycles along Ado/Ikere-Ekiti highway.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, on the fateful day, the command received a credible information that a group of suspected armed robbers were sighted in a residential building in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government of the state.
He explained that based on a credible tip-off, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) swiftly mobilised to the scene and cordoned off the building.
“During the operation which lasted for about two hours, two suspects; Kehinde Isaac and Daniel Olamide were arrested by the police, while others escaped from the scene.
“During interrogations, the suspects who are currently detained at the Ekiti State Police headquarters, Ado-Ekiti, confessed to have specialized in hijacking motorcycles from the owners on the highway, by using guns, iron rod, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
“The suspects equally confessed that they hijacked about eleven motorcycles within Ikere and Ado-Ekiti axis. They also confessed that at about 6.30pm on November 20, 2023, they attacked one Ojo Boyede, a resident of Ikere-Ekiti, during which they robbed him of his Bajaj motorcycle and attempted to murder him by inflicting injury on his body with iron rod,” Abutu said.
Items recovered from the suspects include, three Bajaj motorcycles believed to have been stolen and other offensive weapons.
He said efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing gang members and to recover the stolen motorcycles.
