An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure on Tuesday sentenced two men; Ayuba Idris and Tasur Abubakar to death by hanging for armed robbery and murder.

Delivering his judgment, the trial judge, Justice Williams Olamide, found the convicts guilty of the Counts 3. 4 and 5  and handed down the death sentence on them.

At arraignment, the defendants were charged with five counts of conspiracy and armed robbery, dangerous weapons and murder.

According to the state prosecutor, the defendants committed the offences on May 1, 2019 at about 8:30pm at Ojomo Akintan Estate, Olufoam  area, Akure.

The state Counsel, Mr John Dada, had  informed the court that the defendants conspired to commit armed robbery.

He said the defendants robbed one Kwaku Richard Kwakye and his daughter, Miss Tope Kwakye and dispossessed them of their property.

The items include; one Dell laptop, six suits and other valuables.

Dada said they were tarmed with cutlass, motorcycle cable, and other dangerous weapons, when they killed the victims.

According to him, the defendants killed Tope Kwakye, by strangulating her with motorcycle cable.

I’m his verdict, Justice Williams Olamide, found the convicts guilty of the offence of conspiracy as contained in Count 3 and sentenced each of them to seven years imprisonment.

The Court also found the duo guilty of Counts 4 and 5.

Consequently, the judge sentenced Idris and Abubakar to death by hanging until they are pronounced dead.

However, on Counts 1 and 2, the judge said the prosecution did not successfully prove the allegation.

He, therefore, discharged and acquitted them of Counts 1 and 2.
