U-STEM: Ondo Boys High School emerges winner

Ondo Boys High School has emerged winner of the 2022 edition of the U-STEM UNIMED Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics competition for senior secondary schools in Ondo Kingdom.

The government-owned boys’ school developed a steam electric power generator, using locally available materials and went home with N500,000 cash prize.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Prof. Adesegun Fatusi said the contest was organised to enhance youth capacity for innovation and societal development, adding that it provides seed funds to students in Ondo to use locally available materials to develop innovative products for the Nigerian population.

He said it would also promote to science and technology consciousness  to promote the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among the young generation.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Mrs. Folasade Adegoke , who was represented by the Zonal officer, Mr. Bunmi Ilori added that the programme would improve the students in all ramifications and also contribute to the growth of education from the grassroots in this kingdom, charging the students to nurture the knowledge gained from the programme.

Speaking on the career opportunities in Audiology as part of science that is important but students, a Professor of Audiology, Prof. Dele Owolawi said UNIMED was the pioneer institution to conceive and anchor training programme of Audiology and speech-language therapy in Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, the Director of Phytomedicine, Dr. Oghale Godwin encouraged the invited students develop interest and pursue a degree in herbal medicine to help Nigeria in the global herbal medicine market.

Also, the Director institute of health humanities and entrepreneurship at UNIMED, Dr Iheanacho Metuonu said the purpose of the presentation was to educate the students on the essence of entrepreneurship/ health humanities process and diversification in medical science.
