Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has sealed off Cakes and Pastries Restaurant located in FUTA south gate area and Chicken Suya spot in Sabo around Old garage area in Akure due to dirty environment and also the prevention of disease outbreak.
The Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Sunday Akinwalire while speaking during the on the spot assessment of the restaurant said that the exercise became necessary as response to call from residents within the environment.
While describing the state of the restaurant, the commissioner said the environment was unhygienic and dirty with undrained water littered all around, uncovered soak away with stench filling up the air noting that the environment is not healthy for immediate residents as it portend serious health hazard to them.
He explained that government would not condone any act that would bring harm to the people through food ingestion in dirty environment adding that government has emplaced structures that would make the state clean.
He emphasized that the ministry would begin clamp down on food vendors whose environment were unhealthy while charging the citizens of the state to support government in ridding the state of such unhealthy restaurants.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka who described the facilities as reservoirs for breeding disease such as Lassa and cholera called on residents to embrace healthy living
He maintained that the health of the people is important to government stating that it would not condone any act that would bring danger to residents.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mr Bunmi Alade reiterated that government would follow due process in sealing the facility while also promising that the ministry would double its effort in enforcing the law on residents to ensure compliance to cleanliness.
