The Vice-Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED), Ondo City, Prof. Friday Okonofua has announced the establishment of Faculty of Nursing Sciences in the University.
According to a release signed by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Temitope Oluwatayo and made available to The Hope “The announcement was made during an interactive session with staff of both schools.
The VC announced the appointment of Dr. Mrs. O.A Oluwatosin as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences UNIMED, Ondo.
“He also announced the appointment of four new Heads of Departments in the faculty. They are Prof. Samuel U. Akpovi, Department of Nursing Education and Administration; Dr. Margaret M. Oladapo, Department of Community Health Nursing; Dr. Bridget O. Akin-Otiko, Department of Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health; and Dr. Mary Edwards, Department of Medical and Surgical Nursing.
This development has received applause of the University community as well as the public”.
The Hope reports that the Ondo State Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, Akure were merged recently with the University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED), Ondo City by the State Government.
Meanwhile, the UNIMED community has expressed happiness over the appointments describing it as a welcome development that will further improve the standard of the institution while congratulating the new Dean and HODs.
Mr. Ukpai Anayochukwu Eze, described the appointments as a great development and giant stride in Medical and Nursing Education in Nigeria.
“Kudos to Prof. Okonofua and the management team of UNIMED, Ondo for this foresight. Better days are ahead for the nursing profession in Nigeria”.
Also, Mr. Abraham Fabusuyi said, “This is a dream realized and mission accomplished. The eventual merging of the two schools with UNIMED has put the institution on a very high pedestal and one of the best among its peers in the world over. I wish UNIMED, its staff and management more years of landmarks”.
