UNIMED inaugurates committee on maiden convocation
From Sade Adewale, Ondo
The Vice Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo, Prof. Friday Okonofua, has inaugurated a 13-man committee to make preparations for the first convocation ceremony of the pioneer Medical University in the country.
Okonofua said the convocation will take place on December 3, 2019.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated members of the committee for the privilege given them to organize the first convocation barely four years since its establishment.
In his words :“We want to use this convocation programme to achieve a lot of things. One, to graduate our students and then showcase them to the world. We hope that within three months after completion of youth service, they should get jobs.
“We also want to use this opportunity to showcase what the university stands for, especially being one of the few universities that started in four years and graduated students within the period stipulated in the academic calendar”, he stressed.
Okonofua attributed the feat to the peaceful conduct of students as well as staff of the university, saying within the period of four years, there was no record of students’ unrest, workers’ strike, cultism and other malpractices capable of truncating the smooth running of the university.
Responding, the Chairman of the Convocation Committee, Prof. Williams Olu-Aderounmu appreciated the VC for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the committee.
He said the committee is ready to plan, publicize and organize a befitting and hitch-free convocation ceremony.
