UNIMED inducts first set of nurses

University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo has inducted its first set of professional nurses.
The 36 graduands were charged to be of good conduct in the course of their practice and in dealing with patients and clients.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Adesegun Fatusi gave the charge during the induction ceremony held at the main auditorium of the institution.
He said the institution is Nigeria’s first specialised university of medical and health sciences and a product of powerful vision and innovative mindset.
Fatusi explained that as of today, the university has 26 courses spread across eight faculty and two schools adding that there is no other school in Nigeria that has the same number of health and medical unique courses.
“In this academic section, the University is starting post- graduate courses in several areas. One of the records the institution is proud of is the nursing programme that earned encomium and honour from the nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria, fully accredited by the council and NUC.
“The number of the students allow to take it has been increased to 75 for regular students and 50 for those who are registered nurses,” he added.
He urged them to adhere to the core values of the practice of nursing, human dignity, integrity, honesty, hard work, teamwork among others as the foundation of all health professional.
Speaking, the guest speaker, Prof. Abimbola Oluwatosin said nurses are to focused on caring, saying that has been highlighted in nursing as the essence and main reason for its existence as a field of knowledge and profession.
She added that the nurse’s central role is to promote, maintain, or established human connectedness for therapeutic outcomes.
