The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has commenced the installation of an unlimited internet facility across its campuses and hostels as part of efforts to strengthen digital learning and research.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, said the initiative aligns with her administration’s vision to transform UNIMED into a world-class institution renowned for excellence in teaching, research and community service.
She explained that the project would provide 24-hour broadband access, round-the-clock network support, and a direct connection to the international internet backbone, ensuring fast and reliable communication for students and staff.
“The facility will offer real-time performance monitoring, centralised administrative controls for user management and promote secure information exchange within the university,” Prof. Adejuyigbe said.
According to her, access to quality information at lightning speed gives any academic institution a global advantage.
“One of my primary goals is to reposition UNIMED as a global brand in medical and health sciences education. We are deploying cutting-edge technology to achieve that vision,” she added.
The Vice-Chancellor revealed that the initiative followed a partnership agreement with Sam Smith Global Company Limited, a Lagos-based technology firm.
The development has been widely applauded by members of the university community, who described it as a timely step towards improving digital access, collaboration and innovation across the institution.
