UNIMED matriculates 587 gets 4 new courses

The University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED), has matriculated 587 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The newly admitted students were enjoined to pursue their academic dreams vigorously, maintain peace and shun anti-social behaviours.
After administering the Oath of Allegiance on the students, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatus appreciated the students for the confidence reposed in the institution.
He said “Today’s number is about 25% more than what we admitted last year, we have continued to make steady progress in the university.
“The new increase in admission will take place in the next admission. The news is that four new courses were introduced as new students were admitted, these include: Audiology, this course is important because no medical school in the country today is training people in Audiology.
“As people grow older, they are going to be having problems with hearing as well as young people who use all kinds of earpieces. Some young children were born with a deformity that needs Audiology in our society. We are glad that we have started that and the first set of Audiology which is the first set of students of Audiology in this country.
“Another one is BioSciences and Bio-Technology they are the people you can be looking forward to in helping Nigeria to develop things like vaccines in the future.
“Also, Medical Physics develop the equipment we use. Medicinal Chemistry is to develop drugs and to help transform some of the modern herbs to drugs,” he explained.
Fatusi said the students must have the gifts of competence, character, confidence, connection, contribution, creativity and cultivating godliness in the course of their study.
He noted that their focus must not just be to read and pass exams but to develop themselves to be fit for employment in the future.
The VC further said “our vision is to produce people who are excellent and fit for the society.
Fatusi charged them to be diligent in their academic pursuit and also adhere strictly to the university’s laid down rules and regulations.
