UNIMED names best graduating student

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Science, (UNIMED),Ondo, Professor Friday Okonofua has announced the best graduating student and those with first Class from Biochemistry Department, Miss Olafusi Celestina Oluwaseun with CGPA 4.58.

Okonofua stated this during the convocation ceremony press conference of the institution held at Council Chamber.

The Vice Chancellor stressed that 20 students are graduating with Second Class Upper while the remaining 10 students got Second Class lower.

According to him, the National Universities Commission (NUC) recognized the University of Medical Science, UNIMED, Ondo as the 40th State University and the 139th University in Nigeria.

He added that an advisory team of the NUC visited the University on December 7, 2015, to apraise its readiness to commence academic activities. The NUC visit was followed on December 9 by the team of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), saying the two regulatory bodies were satisfied with their findings and gave a nod to commence academic activities.

A total of 31 pioneer students, spread across five programmes including Medicine, Dentistry, Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry are expected to graduate at the University’s first Convocation ceremony.

He therefore informed that in less than four years, those admitted as pioneer students for Bachelor of Science programmes are through with their academic studies adding that their final results have been released.

Okonofua further noted that the School’s Senate gave a total of 31 students, to graduate having satisfied the requirements and regulations of the University and found worthy, both in character and in learning.

He stressed that the students are from the Faculty of basic Medical Sciences and from departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology.

The Vice Chancellor appreciated the government of Ondo State, under the leadership of the Governor, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN for its commitment to the growth of the institution.

He said that the Alumni Association of the University was inaugurated and also lunched the Graduate Tracer System, a program designed for the management of the institution to monitor how the students are faring after graduation.
