In a bid to enhance access to exceptionally high quality education in medical and health-related sciences, the University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo has introduced twenty new programmes, in the next academic session.
The University Senate at its 10th Special Meeting approved the curricula for the commencement of the twenty new courses.
The courses approved include Speech Therapy, Audiology, Prosthetic and Orthotics, Occupational Therapy, Environmental Health Science, Community Health Science, Dental Therapy, Dental Nursing Science, Health Care Administration and Hospital Management, Health Information Management, Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Medical Physics, Science Laboratory Technology.
Other programmes approved by the Senate include Information Technology and Health Informatics, Environment Management and Toxicology, Medicinal Chemistry, Pure Physics, Radiography and Radiation Science, Cell Biology and Genetics.
The Vice-Chancellor, of the University, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi while addressing the Senate posited that the university’s vision to be a one-stop- shop for education and research in medical and health sciences is a priority of his administration.
“The mission of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo is to expand access to compassionate,
comprehensive and high-quality medical and health science education. For this goal to be achieved, it is important that we introduce all these courses to provide an all-encompassing training which will strengthen the university’s contribution to human resources in health development in Nigeria and global scientific advancement to improve population health and well-being”, the VC said.
With the Senate’s approval, the University is poised to approach the National Universities Commission (NUC) for resource verification with respect to the programmes, which are expected to start in the next academic session.
