UNIMED VC, others to bag 2018 PEARL Awards

Vice Chancellor of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED)- Africa’s third and Nigeria’s first specialized medical university, Prof Friday Okonofua is among academic giants slated to receive the 2018 edition of the Pacesetters in Education for African Renaissance and Leadership (PEARL) Award.

Okonofua according to a statement signed by the Project Director of African Strides International, Henry Adesola Esq will be sharing the podium of one of Africa’s greatest honours in education with other distinguished and  exemplary pathfinders, leaders and administrators in the field like Professor Stephen Onah, the Director/Chief Executive, National Mathematical Centre; Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN); Dr Hameed Bobboyi, Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC and; Professor Kayode Soremekun, Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Oye Ekiti.

Others include Professor Michael Adikwu, Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja; Professor Angela Freeman Miri, Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja; Professor Muhammad Sanusi, Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Lafia; Professor Msugh Moses Kembe, Vice Chancellor, Benue State University and; Professor Muhammad Mainoma, Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University.

Also, Baze University, Abuja; Nigerian Turkish Nile University and; the African University if Science and Technology, Abuja will receive the PEARL Award for distinguished private institutions category.

The PEARL Award is an innovation of the AfricanStride International, instituted as a platform for advancing educational development by rewarding and celebrating excellence, leadership and quality delivery among heads of institutions, outstanding educationists, policy makers, front line research and training institutes, agencies, educational promoters and first class private institutions.

Among other things, the PEARL Award also aims at promoting the concept of functional education, enduring leadership, national development, patriotism, developmental reforms, entrepreneurship, self reliance and attitudinal change, with a view to making African education truly responsive to the challenges of development on the continent.

The 2018 PEARL Award ceremony with the theme: “Good Education: A Recipe for Peaceful and Prosperous Society” holds on September 30, 2018 at the Merit House Complex, Abuja.
