UNIZIK expels student for slapping lecturer over TikTok video

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for allegedly assaulting a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
The university announced the expulsion in a letter dated 13 February 2025, signed by its Acting Registrar, Victor Modebelu.
Modebelu stated that the decision was based on the recommendation of the Student Disciplinary Committee, which found Precious guilty of breaching the institution’s disciplinary regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
“The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, consequently, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,” he wrote.
The registrar emphasised that the expulsion was with immediate effect, directing Precious to vacate the university premises and return any property belonging to the institution.
The incident, which sparked widespread reactions on social media, involved Precious attacking a lecturer, Dr Chukwudi Okoye, after he interrupted her while recording a TikTok video on campus.
The confrontation led to public outcry and demands for disciplinary measures.
