The Ondo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, has condemned the rise of unlicensed security outfits operating within the state, warning that such illegal activities pose a significant threat to public safety.
Dr Ajulo made this known at a community policing summit in Abuja, where he highlighted concerns over the recruitment of unqualified individuals by certain estate owners, who are using unapproved security outfits to enforce security measures.
He expressed particular concern about reports of harassment by these outfits, urging law enforcement agencies to take immediate action in profiling their personnel.
“The laws regulating security operations in Nigeria are clear, and any violations must be addressed promptly,” Dr Ajulo stated.
“The rule of law must prevail, and any infringement must be met with enforcement and penalties,” he added.
The Attorney-General commended the efforts of Ondo State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his dedication to the security of citizens.
He praised the governor’s initiative to provide security vehicles and equipment to various law enforcement agencies, reinforcing the state’s commitment to ensuring safety.
Dr Ajulo reassured the public that the government’s institutions and agencies are in place to maintain order and security, stressing that “heaven won’t fall” as long as the government continues to uphold the law.
He called on all stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the issue of unlicensed security outfits, emphasising the need for a united approach to protect the residents of Ondo State.
