A group, the Ondo Pier Club’ 93 Houston, USA has donated equipment worth about half a million naira to the Kidney Care Centre of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo.
The equipment donated by the Texas based club to the hospital is twelve brand new wheel chairs.
Public Relations Officer of the Club, Pier Frank Awolope presenting the equipment on behalf of the club said, “Our Social Secretary, Pier Chris Adewole visited the Renal Unit when he was in the country few months back and he was not happy to see that there was only one three legged wheelchair for the use of the whole unit.
“Hence, he spoke with club members on getting back to USA. Members headed by the President, Pier Dotun Fagbemi decided to make the donation for effective movement of patients within the hospital”.
Awolope who made the donation on behalf of the club promised that the Club will from now continue to donate and assist the hospital that is within their reach.
Receiving the donations on behalf of the management, Head of Renal Unit, Dr. A.O Adejumo expressed appreciation to the club for the gesture and appealed to well meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture of the club.
Also, Head of Nursing Services (UNIMEDTH), Mrs F.O Ajetunmobi solicited for more supports from philanthropists saying government alone cannot provide all needed equipment in the hospital.
“Groups like this, individuals, politicians can compliment government efforts in making the place the best in the country. We are grateful to Ondo Pier Club, USA for the donations”.
Present at the presentation were Mr. Moses Fadoju, Mrs. Mercy Adegbaye, Mrs. Awolope, Mrs. Ogungbemi, Head of Dialysis unit.
