Vacate now or face law, Osun govt warns land grabbers

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Osun State Government has issued a stern warning to land grabbers encroaching on government lands across the state, urging them to vacate the properties without delay or risk facing the full weight of the law.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Assets Management, Mrs Fausat Sarumi-Adebanjo, handed down the warning during a monitoring exercise carried out by officials of the Osun Assets Management Agency.

The monitoring team visited the premises of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC), Oke Baale, and the Ogidan Grammar School area in Sasa, Osogbo, where it was discovered that unpatriotic individuals had encroached on a vast portion of government land.

Mrs Sarumi-Adebanjo declared that the state government is fully prepared to reclaim its properties, stressing that the assets of the state represent the collective wealth of the people.

She urged individuals who have erected structures on government land to report to the Osun Assets Management Agency with their land documents without further delay.

During the inspection, it was observed that large expanses of government land had been illegally acquired, with several unauthorised structures erected on them.

She therefore warned that, during the next round of inspection, such structures would be marked for demolition if those responsible fail to comply with the directives.
