Vandal electrocuted trying to steal  electricity cables

By Henry Iyorkase, Makurdi

A suspected vandal has been reportedly electrocuted atop an electric pole while trying to steal electricity cables in Benue State.

The incident occurred at the Kanshio settlement in Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State.

An eyewitness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the incident occurred around 2 a.m. when the vandal climbed the pole to remove electrical appliances.

The witness explained that during the process, electricity was restored, which led to the vandal’s electrocution.

An inhabitant stated that the man, believed to be in his thirties, had been terrorising electricity consumers by persistently removing cables in the communities.

However, luck ran out on the deceased, as the old saying goes, “many days for the thief, but one day for the owner”, a scenario that perfectly mirrored the incident.

“Unknowingly to the vandal, electricity supply was restored just as he was on the pole, leading to his electrocution,” the inhabitant added.

Efforts to obtain clarification from Jos Electricity Distribution Company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Dr Adakole Elijah, proved futile, as repeated attempts to reach him on his mobile phone went unanswered.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP, could also not be reached for comments despite several calls.
