The activities of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders have continued to constitute huge menace in the state.
The riders are found of violating traffic rules, especially along the Federal College of Agric-Ijapo Housing Estate way.
One of their many atrocities along the road is riding through one-way.
Rather than go through the normal routes when entering Ijapo Housing Estate, they usually ride against traffic from the junction right in front of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA), unknown to motorists coming from Agbogbo towards Fiwasaye Grammar School.
This has resulted to several accidents as motorists, who are unaware of the illegal riding after colliding with the okada riders.
Similarly, the riders are found of clustering at Ijapo gate and other unathorised areas, necessitating the need for government to intervene and put the riders on check in view of the security challenges in the state.
Riding against the traffic by the okadas was also observed at Oda road, Oba Ile, Ondo road and many other dualised roads in the state.
Similarly, their activities at major junctions are more than unsocial.
They usually occupy almost half of the road, inhibiting vehicular movement and are quick to haul insults at motorists when challenged.
Reacting, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor, Dr Doyin Odebowale said that commercial motorcyclists and motorists were being discouraged from driving or riding through one-way.
He however stressed that it is the duty of the Nigerian Police to ensure motorists adhere to traffic rules and regulations in the state.
