Sunshine Spikers have started their game at the ongoing National Sports Festival on a good note,as they defeated their counterpart from Kano Pillers Volleyball team 3-1 in their first match of the competition.
The Ondo Spikers which are the number one Volleyball team in the country displayed their skills to the admiration of the spectators at the Emotan College Wire road, Benin City, venue of the entertaining event.
Ondo State Volleyball coach, Adekalu Adeniyi expressed happiness that his team defeated its opponent, saying every team in the Festival wanted to win, promising that the team would not rest on its oars to reach our target.
“Which ever they come, we are ready for any team, we will meet them power for power”
The leader of the Ondo state contingent and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Engineer Wemimo Ogunsanmi, said he was elated and encouraged seeing his team defeating its Kano counterpart.
He urged the team to increase the momentum, shown that as the number one Volleyball team in the country, they should not relax.
He charged other athletes to put in their best to do the state proud, they should compete fairly and play within the rules that guide the games.
The former Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Dotun Owanikin who was at the Festival in solidarity with the state’s contingent urged the team not to be complacent and ensure they grab the gold for the state.
