WAFU B U17: Olowookere invites Sunshine Queens goalkeeper, others to camp

Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has invited 25 players to the camp of Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, in preparation for the WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup competition scheduled to take place in Ghana from 12th to 26th December 2024.

The coach has primarily selected players from the squad that reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic a few weeks ago. The team also won the FIFA Fair Play Trophy at the tournament, despite losing 2-0 to eventual bronze medallists, the USA, in the quarter-finals.

Midfielder Shakirat Moshood, who scored four goals during the tournament, tops the list of invitees. Other key players called up include first-choice goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, defenders Taiwo Adegoke, Jumai Adebayo, and Prisca Nwachukwu, midfielder Farida Abdulwahab, and forwards Harmony Chidi, Peace Effiong, and Janet Akekoromowei.

The Flamingos have been placed in Group B of the two-week, six-team competition, alongside the U17 teams of Côte d’Ivoire and Niger Republic. Host nation Ghana is in Group A with Burkina Faso and Benin Republic.

All invited players are expected to report to the Remo Stars Sports Institute, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024.
