By Femi Atolagbe

The Acting General Manager, Ondo State Sports Council, Mr Wande Fabuluje has expressed the readiness and preparation of the state contingents ahead of the National Sports Festival slated to be held in Edo State next year tagged Edo 2020.

Fabuluje while fielding questions from Sporting Hope in his office said, the 20th NSF slated for Edo state next year won’t go the way of the 2018, held in Abuja where the state did not prepare well due to short notice. “We are in early preparation for the next year’s National Sports Festival, because a stitch in time they say saves nine, so all hands must be on deck”.

The Acting GM, said despite the short notice , the state contingents performed well having won 10th position on the medals table. He therefore promised that the state contingents will improve on the previous year’s performance, assuring the state will move from 10th position to at least first five on the medals table.

Recalled few weeks ago that the National council on sports at their extraordinary meeting held in Edo state had proposed March 20-April 6 for the commencement of the 2020 National Sports Festival in the state.

But Fabuluje charged all the stakeholders to brace up for the challenges ahead in respect of training all other obtainable means to ensure that the state partake fully and come out victorious.

He added that this year’s NSF will be included in the budget unlike last year which was not included in the year’s budget. He thanked the Governor of the state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for approving the re- order budget for the council for partaking in Abuja 2018.

“The state athletes are all aware that the state is going to participate in the next year Festival, so they are all ready and eager to make the state proud once again”.

Fabuluje said part of the State’s preparation was the inauguration of different sports associations to assist the government to ensure that the state measures up and excels in all sports competitions.

He added “that in few months the state will be going for states sports festival ,which will prepare us for the National Youths Games in Ilorin, we believe these two competitions will shape our athletes ahead of the Edo 2020 20th National Sports Festival and surpass other states,” he concluded.
