Following the reported  abduction of two saw millers along Akunu area in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo state, the  State Police Command on Wednesday   said they were working collaboratively with their counterpart in Kogi state to rescue the victims unhurt.

The Hope Metro gathered that the incident happened between the boundary of  Ondo and Kogi states.

It would be recalled that two persons were abducted in their sawmill in between Akunu and Ayeye communities after which  the hoodlums now demand N5 million ransom.

The State Police Public Relations Officer ,Mr Femi  Joseph speaking with  The Hope Metro, described the incident as unfortunate.

“From our preliminary findings,  Ayeye community is under Kogi State. And we are working hand in hand to ensure the  immediate release of the two men and reunite with their families. As far as we are concerned,  kidnapping has drastically reduced in the state.

“I can authoritatively confirm to you that the last security summit put in place by the state government has helped in the reduction of kidnapping cases in the state. I will enjoin our media not  to blow things out of proportion, because fighting crime and criminality is a joint responsibility, not for the police alone.

“I want to reassure all motorists plying Owo/Ifon/Akoko roads that adequate security has been put in place to guarantee their safety as they go about their lawful duties unhindered,” Joseph said.

While urging the general public to be vigilant and security conscious at all times, the police said they have  commerced 24 hours surveillance and aggressive patrol in all nooks and crannies of the state.  He, therefore,n soliciteg the support of all and sundry in giving out useful information that would help in  bringing crime to a tolerable level.
