The Nigerian Army have resolved to restrategise and explore local technology to effectively combat insurgency.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja made this known at the opening of the Nigerian Army combat support Arms Training week, held in Akure, Ondo State.
Lagbaja said that the training would provide the nation’s service chiefs opportunity to rob minds with retired Generals on ways to adopt technology to enhance the security operations in the country.
He promised that the training would afford the Nigerian Army to be transformed and adopt indigenous innovations to address the nation’s security challenges.
He said : “The Nigerian Army being a professional and dynamic force, will improve our efficiency and effective delivery of our security in every operation.
“This training taking place in Akure is combat support training set aside in the Army training calendar to give opportunity to combat support Corps to review their activities in the past years and evolve ways of doing things better.
“The theme of this year’s training week is;” Leveraging Indigenous Technology to Enhance our Operations”, has been carefully selected, taking into consideration the nature of security challenges across the country and the need to employ technology as a leveler to enhance the efficiency of security operatives in the country.
“This is an avenue where retired senior military personnel, serving military personnel and even the executives from the industry will sit down, rub minds and come up with better way of conducting military operations and other military activities.
“I will work in line with my philosophy of command to transform the Army into a well trained equipped and highly motivated towards achieving responsibility in our fine environment.
“Taking into consideration that our soldiers form the bedrock of the conduct of our operations, it’s going to be the soldiers and their families.
” And even our departed colleagues who had paid the supreme price. We will focus on them and provide the best for them and even for their families.
In his welcome address, the Acting Governor of Ondo state, Lucky Ayedatiwa commended the selfless service and unwavering support of the Army to the peace being witnessed in the state .
He called for synergy among the army and sister security agencies, especially the Amotekun corp established by south west Governors to stem security challenges in the state and and within the region.
He admonished them to adopt new security system for operational efficiency.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander of Corp Artillery, General MG Kagye said that insecurity requires deliberate efforts by combat support army to enhance security measures for a safe environment.
He appreciated Nigerians for intelligence gathering support to the Army.
