‘We ’ll restructure adult education’

By Josephine Oguntoyinbo
Ondo State Government has mapped out strategies for the restructuring and implementation of adult education programmes to ensure its functionality.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Femi Agagu made the declaration yesterday during the graduation and presentation of proficiency certificates to the adult literacy learners/trainees of functional literacy programme in Idanre and Ifedore local governments areas of the state.

The Commissioner who was represented by his S.A Political, Pastor Yomi Akinrinmade explained that the present administration has focused on the kind of literacy which transmits not only to the ability to read and write but also those skills, attitudes and knowledge needed for development and self reliance.

The Commissioner posited that the basic functionality of the board was designed to meet the needs of young people who left school early without completing their education and non-literate adults who have not been to school before to commence their education and to also train them in various skills acquisition.

He therefore congratulated the graduating students and also charged them to put what they have learnt into practice and equally seek for more knowledge in order to stand out.

He assured that the state government will continue to do its best to ensure that the economic and social well being of the people are improved.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Secretary, Board for Adult, Technical and Vocational Education, Dr Mrs Aarinola Akinsete affirmed that  the ceremony brought into limelight one of the present administration’s promises to liberate majority of people who have no access to formal education from vicious cycle of poverty, economic dependence and disease, by providing functional literacy to complement the state government’s empowerment programme.
