Welfare: Olowolabi assures Journalists

Ondo State Government has reiterated its commitment to workers’ welfare in general and particularly journalists in the service of the state government by working under conducive environment.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, stated this at the weekly editorial meeting of the Department of Information Services of the Ministry held during the week.

A statement by the Press Officer of the ministry, Sola Omoboyowa quoted the commissioner as saying the newsroom is a place where work would be quantified and as such it must be made conducive for journalists to put in their best so as to have quality output.

He promised to renovate the Ministry’s newsroom and working tools to enhance efficient services delivery among the staffers.

He noted that he was a product of the newsroom and believes there must be an urgent renovation and provision of other working tools needed in the newsroom.

Mr. Olowolabi commended the efforts of the Director of Information Services Department, Mrs. Julie Fayeun and other Officers in the Department for a job well done, particularly in the production of the Ministry’s newsletter, adding that the paper is of high standard and is widely circulated within and outside the state.

He said that since its production, it has been able to tell the people more about the activities of the state government, than other media outfits, including the government owned.

He added that the Ministry through the Department of Information Services would soon produce a magazine as he submitted that there are competent and capable hands in the department that could deliver quality job.

The Commissioner charged Press Officers to be up and doing by ensuring that they are not pushed over at their various beats.

The spokesman of the government also promised to look into the welfare of journalists working in the Ministry, noting that he should be adequately briefed by the DIS on the issue of weigh-in and training for members.

Earlier, Director of Information Services, Mrs. Julie Fayeun appreciated the Commissioner for being in attendance to charge and motivate Officers, saying the presence of the Commissioner would serve as encouragement for the staff of the department assuring him  that they would continue to put in their best.

She affirmed the commitment of members of the department to work at any time as she enumerated some of the challenges faced by the Ministry, particularly in the areas of official and utility vehicles and conducive office accommodation.

Mrs. Fayeun also appealed to the commissioner to educate his colleagues in other Ministries on the need to cooperate with Press Officers posted to them by carrying them along whenever there is assignment for proper planning and coverage.
