We’ll make our youths globally competitive – ODSG
The Ondo State Government will soon roll out life-improvement programmes targeted at empowering youths of the state to make them globally competitive in job and wealth creation.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami made this commitment while receiving the Owo Youths Assembly in his office in Akure, the State capital.
Adelami, who said youth development is central to the progress and development of any nation, emphasised that the Lucky Aiyedatiwa led administration is roundly committed to ensuring that youths across the 18 Local Government areas are gainfully engaged.
The Deputy Governor was very particular about skills acquisition for the youth to be self-reliant, stressing that there are other vocational skills they can acquire without breaking the banks which he said could make them employers of labour while earning a living.
He tasked the youth on how to develop themselves and the community where they live.
“Ondo State Government led by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is interested in the area of youth development, how to change the old narratives and how to get the youth engaged.
“This is something that is possible because youths are the ones that would take over from us. Therefore, you are the framework on which the state will be resting. There are specific programmes designed by the present administration to engage youths meaningfully”, he said.
Adelami added that the gap created by the unemployment syndrome wouldn’t have been so obvious if the youth had made it a priority to get the right skills in the area of Information Communication Technology (ICT), while emphasising that it is of utmost importance for them to move with the latest technological advancement for sustainable development.
He said different programmes including vocational skills acquisition to empower the youths would soon be rolled out by Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration to reduce indexes of unemployment in the state.
Earlier, The President of Owo Youths Assembly, Basiru Adeola, who congratulated the Deputy Governor on his appointment said they are impressed by the deliberate programmes and policies of the present administration to engender needed development in the state.
Another representative of the Owo Youths Assembly, Olumide Obanla described Adelami as a round peg in a round hole underscoring his numerous programmes targeted at raising the downtrodden in Owo Community and Ondo State in general.
He said in view of the fact that the present administration has demonstrated maximum responsibility towards the young population, the youths would reciprocally continue to support Governor Aiyedatiwa and his Deputy to succeed in office.
