The Chairman, Ondo East Local Government area, Joshua Fola Ogunduyilemi, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing residents with adequate and clean drinking water, describing it as a top priority
Speaking in Bolorunduro, the council’s headquarters, Ogunduyilemi stressed that access to potable water is a basic necessity, saying his government is determined to ease the burden on communities by improving water supply.
To achieve this, the local government has initiated plans to drill new boreholes, rehabilitate faulty ones, and repair existing water sources across the 10 wards in the area.
He called on residents, security agencies and other stakeholders to support the initiative, noting that beyond water provision, the project will also create job opportunities for skilled workers and promote hygiene.
His words: “We have deployed teams to assess the condition of boreholes across the local government. Our focus is to repair and fully restore non-functional ones so that our people can enjoy a steady supply of potable water.
“This project is not just about clean water; it is about transforming our communities. We need the cooperation of every resident and stakeholder to ensure its success. It is a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving public health and creating employment.”
Ogunduyilemi commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for prioritising access to potable water across the state, adding that the local government would align with the governor’s policies to enhance residents’ welfare.
“We will strictly follow the laid down policies of our Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in making life more meaningful for our people. One of his key priorities is ensuring potable water supply to every citizen.
“Our goal is to provide every household with access to clean water. This is a massive task. But we are determined to deliver on it, he added.”
On security, the council boss disclosed plans to profile all residents in the local government, stating that the move is aimed at enhancing safety and monitoring activities within communities.
“We intend to register all residents, document their places of residence, and occupations. A data collection form will soon be distributed for this purpose,” he stated.
