No fewer than  thirty three graduates of Wesley University in Ondo East Local Government area of Ondo state bagged first class honours in different programmes out of the 525 graduands, who had completed their studies in 2016, 2017 and 2018 academic sessions respectively.

The chancellor of the University, the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Victor Adesimbo kiladejo II stated this at the combined 5th, 6th and 7th convocation ceremony held at High Chief (Sir) Olabanji Akingbule lecture theater in Ondo city.

The graduands were   214 students for 2016,149 for 2017 and 162 for 2018. Of the total number, 211 bagged  Second Class Upper, 223 Second Class Lower, 56 Third Class, while only two had Pass degree.

Kiladejo said the occasion recorded the recognition of the achievements of some distinguished Nigerians, and for the first time, a Briton, in various fields of endeavour.

He said:’  One significance of this, that must not be lost on us, is that it helps the youth to be focused and for their lives to be shaped by role models such as the honourary awardees of the event.’

According to him, Ondo is a  peaceful City, saying the people are not only peace -loving, but have unequalled commitment to education,  that the success story of Ondo City no doubt robs off on the institution. He acknowledged the fact that there is evidence of new commitment on the part of the institution and students.

The chancellor therefore urged all stakeholders not to give up on the University, saying it is indeed heartwarming that the University is methodically surmounting some of the well known challenges that had dotted its path in the earlier years.

The Osemawe enjoined the graduands to see themselves as overcomers, people who have been prepared and positioned to make their mark in the  larger society, adding that the graduands are fully equipped with the knowledge and skill requisite to their success in life.

He further urged them not to see this moment as the end of their academic pursuit, adding that the world is changing fast and they can not afford to rest on their oars rather to improve themselves, either through further studies, or acquisition of additional skills.

On his part, the Vice chancellor of the University, prof. Sunday Ndubueze Ukachukwu implored the graduands to have continue interest in the affairs of the alma mater and joined hands with other stakeholders in making it one of the best in the world.
