A middle-aged wheelbarrow pusher was on Saturday apprehended by traders at the Oja-Oba market, in Akure metropolis, for stealing a customer’s goods worth N23,300.
The victim, Mrs Olusola Adesina, was said to have bought some foodstuffs, which comprised of rice, beans, maize and other ingredients and engaged the barrow pusher to help her take the items to the road side where she would board a cab.
However, the suspect was reported to have absconded with the items, before he was caught by some sympathisers who later tracked him down.
The traders, it was learnt, came to the aid of the victim, Mrs Olusola Adesina, when she broke down in tears after the wheel barrow pusher disappeared with the foodstuffs she bought at the market.
Our reporter who was at the market, observed some customers and traders gathered to sympathize with the woman while some able body men ran towards the direction of the suspect.
Mrs Adesina, while narrating what transpired to sympathisers who came to console her amid tears, said after buying the food items, she engaged the barrow pusher to help her take the items to the road side.
She said after the barrow pusher started moving towards the road with the items, she stopped over to buy fish and asked him to wait for her.
”After I bought the fish, I turned back, but could not see the barrow pusher again,” she lamented.
Adesina said she came from Oke-Aro area of Akure to Oja-Oba market to buy the food stuffs worth N23, 300.
It was gathered that when the traders later got hold of the barrow pusher, the food stuffs were no longer found with him. He was handed over to the police.
