‘Why students should build career in Journalism’

From Kayode Olabanji, Okitipupa

Students have been advised to create interest and build a passion for Journalism.

The advice was given by the General Manager of Awawa 94.1 FM, Chief Oluwole Akinbo, at the second edition of St. William’s College, Okitipupa Career Week programme titled; “Choosing Journalism As A Career”.

The students cloaked in dresses that reflected their future careers trooped out in their numbers to welcome the guest speaker.

In his speech, Akinbo, who retired as a Director in Ondo State Civil Service, acknowledged the principal officers of the College and the entire students for their efforts in ensuring students have adequate enlightenment on career and vocation.

In his lecture, Chief Akinbo described Journalism as a profession, whose practitioners are expected to carry out their duties with passion, notwithstanding the monetary gains or resources involved.

He encouraged the students to build passion and interest in journalism, noting that brilliant journalists in Nigeria have risen through the ranks to the top of their careers like Femi Adesina, Gbenga Omotoso, Laolu Akande, Abike Dabiri Erewa, Smart Adeyemi and many more have continued to shine even beyond Journalism as presidential spokesperson, Commissioners for Information and prominent legislatures.

Earlier, the Principal of the School, Rev. Sister Bendicta Ogike acknowledged the guest speaker, Chief Akinbo, and his entourage for their time, energy, and resourceful wealth of knowledge.

Rev. Sister Ogike enjoined the students to make absolute and proper use of the opportunity to enrich their knowledge to make a better career choice in life.
