The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, has attributed the reason for not fielding candidates for some political offices in the 2019 elections to the carelessness of aspirants after the party’s primaries.
The Party’s State Chairman, Chief Korede Duyile, in an interview with The Hope, at the weekend explained that some of the party’s aspirants did not forward their necessary documents to the party secretariat for submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office.
The Hope gathered that the party did not field candidates for one Senatorial district, three Federal Constituencies and seven House of Assembly seats.
According to him,” the party fielded 19 candidates for the House of Assembly, six for the House of Representatives and two for the senatorial seats.
“The party did not field candidates in some political offices as some aspirants failed to send their papers early for submission after the party primaries”
Among the political offices the party did not provide candidates for include Ondo North Senatorial district, Akoko SouthEast/SouthWest, lle-Oluji/Okelgbo/Odigbo and Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituencies.
For the House of Assembly, the list is yet to be released to newsmen.
Duyile disclosed that the party has no controversy over the senatorial and the House of Representatives lists except in the case of the House of Assembly list in which the names of some of the candidates of the party have not been released by INEC.
His words “As far we are concerned, there is no controversy except in few cases without genuine reason for non release of some names of our candidates for the House of Assembly seats by INEC.
“We are battling with it. Some of our of candidates for the House of Assembly ought to have been released “There should not be controversy over it, as we are trying to sort it out in our own ways.”
