‘Why Yoruba must unite’

By Josephine Oguntoyinbo

A public affairs Analyst, Dr Andrew Bamiselu, has stressed the need for genuine unity among the Yoruba race in preparation for the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
Bamiselu, who stated this in a chat with The Hope at the weekend maintained that the move would cement the bond of relationship in addition to engendering progress and cohesion of the presidential race.
He distanced himself from those calling for the splitting of the country, siting examples of Eritrea, which splited from Ethiopia, and south Sudan, from Sudan, stating that nothing good came out of it.
He urged Nigerians to cooperate with the present administration in taking the country to the leading rank of nations in Africa and the global scene.
“Those clamouring for a split are only selfish and self centered and the country does not need such desperate fellows, if the Yoruba race wants to hold an upper hand in Government, we have to unite just like in 1990 when we joined hands with MKO Abiola to defeat the other main contesters ethnic groups, when in fact the incumbent was an Hausa too, it shows what unity can do for us”,he averred.
He strictly warned the Yorubas never to associate themselves with any politician who might want to entice them with vote buying, saying that they should not sell their rights for some few naira notes, as that would be incomparable to suffering for four long years.
He expressed optimism that if the electorates can do the needful, Nigeria will be better for it.
