A domestic crisis has rocked the quiet community of Osi-Igoba in Akure, the Ondo State capital, after a woman, identified simply as Mrs Olugenga, reportedly set her husband’s belongings on fire, upon discovering his alleged extramarital affair cleverly disguised under the name “Pastor” on his mobile phone.
The dramatic incident has since sparked widespread debate across the neighbourhood, with many expressing mixed feelings about the unfolding saga.
Mrs Olugenga, who is known within her local church as a dedicated chorister, told Weekend Hope that she was preparing dinner when her husband’s phone rang several times.
She said the persistent calls from a contact saved as “Pastor” drew her attention, prompting her to pick up the device.
According to her, a string of incoming messages revealed what she described as the ultimate betrayal, intimate plans and romantic conversations between her husband and the woman behind the “Pastor” disguise.
“I saw messages between them, making plans to meet on my birthday,” she said.
Overcome with rage, she said she immediately gathered her husband’s clothes, shoes, ATM card and set them ablaze in a fit of fury.
The husband, who returned home shortly after, was reportedly greeted by the smouldering scene and his wife’s wrath.
Eyewitnesses said he fled the house, shouting for help, while neighbours trooped in to intervene.
But their efforts to calm the situation were swiftly rejected by the enraged woman, who shouted, “Don’t interfere in my marriage. You all have your own problems; why not focus on them?”
Speaking further, Mrs Olugenga revealed she had long suspected her husband of being unfaithful but decided to wait for concrete evidence.
She added that the relationship had been strained recently, with her husband complaining about her heavy involvement in church activities and accusing her of neglecting their home.
She also claimed he had been influenced by friends and family members who mocked her modest dressing and criticised her for being too religious.
The matter has now been taken to their church pastor for resolution, as efforts are ongoing to mediate between the feuding couples.
