Ondo State Football Association has charged Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) Luminaries to ensure victory when they play their counterpart from University of Maiduguri in the final of the Higher Institutions Football League (HiFL), on Saturday, October 9.
HiFL is organised by Pace Sports and Entertainment Marketing in collaboration with the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA).
Ondo FA noted that winning the tournament will bring honour and prestige to the state and the push for football development drive of the state FA to the grassroots.
Recalled that AAUA had qualified from the Benin centre and played Obafemi Awolowo University in the round 16, defeated them on away goal rule after playing 0-0 in Akungba and 1-1 in Ife.
They also played University of Lagos in the quarterfinal, beat them 1-0 in Akungba after a goalless draw in Lagos.
In the semifinals, they played a 1-1 stalemate in Enugu and a 0-0 draw in Akungba to eliminate University of Nigeria, Nsukka on away goal rule to qualify for the final of the tournament.
Ondo State FA noted that the team had done perfectly well by reaching the final of the tournament but would actually be historic if the trophy comes to Ondo State.
To boost the moral of the AAUA Luminaries, Ondo FA under the leadership of Otunba Dele Ajayi has rendered financial support to the team.
