Upcoming gospel artiste and Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) student, Adeola Godwin, popularly known as Goodness and Mercy has shared his journey into music, describing it as a divine calling.
In an interview with Weekend Extravaganza in Akure, the young artiste revealed that his musical journey began in 2013 when he joined the choir in his local church.
“Being a chorister gave me the platform to compose and write songs,” he said, reflecting on how his formative years in the church helped shape his music ministry.
He shared that his inspiration often comes during prayer or while watching Christian movies.
He recounted an experience with a particular movie where a minister received teachings from the Holy Spirit in dreams but lost the gift due to the sin of self-glorification.
“That movie gave me a deeper understanding of my experiences. I realized someone has been teaching me as well—though not always in dreams. It encouraged me to pray for more of such divine teachings,” he explained.
Speaking about his music ministry, he credited God as his foundation and guide. “Ever since I started ministering through music, God has been my backbone. Even as a choir member, I saw myself as a gospel artiste working for Him, through dreams and prophecies,” he said.
Godwin added that his mission is to fulfill God’s purpose and bless lives as a vessel in His vineyard.
“I thank God for His faithfulness. Since He gave me the mandate to praise Him through songs, He has never disappointed me,” he said.
The artiste urged fellow gospel musicians to view themselves as ministers, not entertainers. “Always run with God. Never seek alternatives, and don’t give up, even when the light hasn’t publicly surfaced,” he advised
As Godwin’s passion for ministry grows, he hopes to establish a gospel music academy in the future, where young talents can be nurtured and groomed in both their spiritual and musical callings.
“My vision is not just to sing, but to create an avenue where other gospel artistes can be equipped with not just the musical skills, but the right mindset of serving God through their music. I believe the world is yearning for more gospel music that touches hearts and changes lives,” he said with conviction.
He emphasized that the ultimate goal of gospel music is soul-winning, and he encourages his fellow artistes to remember that their calling is much greater than personal fame or financial success.
Godwin’s musical journey is one of deep faith and conviction, and he believes his best works are yet to come.
He looks forward to reaching more souls through his songs, and to one day collaborate with other gospel ministers to take the message of Christ to the world on a greater scale.
“Music is powerful. It is a tool for healing, deliverance, and transformation. As long as God gives me the grace, I will continue to use it to fulfill His will,” he said.
