A 32-year-old woman, Kelechi Ogbonna, has been dragged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for allegedly biting one Precious Ogbonna, on her jaw and cutting it off.
The police brought Ogbonna before the court on Friday, for assaulting the complainant and conducting herself in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace at the scene of the crime.
Ogbonna is facing a two-count charge bothering on assault and manner likely to cause the breach of peace.
Prosecution said she committed the offences on July 12, 2023, at about 8:30 am at No 14, Yaba close in Ondo, contrary to and punishable under Sections 355 and 86(2)of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Kelechi Ogbonna, on July 20, 2023, at about 8:30 am, at No 14, Yaba close, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, did assault one, Precious Ogbonna, by giving her human bite on her mouth jaw and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
But Ogbonna pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Gbenga Akinsulire, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
The Magistrate, Mrs O Ijeh, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two credible sureties in like sum.
Ijeh adjourned the case till September 22, 2023, for trial.
