Woman, 40, docked over burglary

A 40-year-old woman, Bose Abimbola has been arraigned before an Ondo Magistrates’ court for alleged burglary breaking into the shop of one Toyin Kunle and committing a felony.

Abimbola was arraigned before the court on Friday on six counts bothering on burglary and stealing.

She was alleged to have unlawfully stolen two cylinders worth N28,000, three  plastic rubber-containing drinks valued at N40,000, a packet of ciggarret worth N7,000, eight crates  of eggs valued at N24,000, five litres of palm oil worth N 6,000, 2 wrist watches worth N14,000, and two hand chain valued at N7,000.

Abimbola was further alleged to have stolen some other items, which include; 20 weapons valued at  N28,000, 50 pieces of hair attachment  valued at N156,000, and one  thermocool freezer N170,000, and others, total valued at N1,058,000, properties  of one Bukola Ojo, Mojisola Olawale and Justina Adeyemi at Okeigba street, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial district.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Gbenga Akinsulire, said the offences contravene sections 413 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the six-count charges.

Akinsulire, therefore applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Akinnugba Hawkins, prayed the court to admit her client to bail in most liberal terms.

In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs C.E Ijeh, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She said that one of the sureties must have a landed property and the document must be submitted to the court, while the residence should be confirmed by the court’s orderly and reported back to court.

The case was adjourned till January 18, 2023, for trial.
