Woman, 50, jailed over theft

A 50-year-old woman, Damilola Ajayi, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by the Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for stealing N200,000, property of one Mohammed Abubakar.
The Magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni, sentenced the convict after she found her guilty of the offence.
Ajayi was charged with one count of stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akao Moremi, said the convict committed the offence on March 15, 2024, at No. 9, Igbonmoba street, Ondo.
The charge read in part,” That you, Damilola Ajayi on March 15, 2024, at No 9, Igbonmoba street, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N200,000, property of one Mohammed Abubakar and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge against her.
Consequently, the prosecutor, Akao Moremi, prayed the court to sentence her according to her plea.
The convict who had no legal representation, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
She, however blamed the devil for the act, promising that she would not to do it again.
Ikujuni, however, sentenced her to eighteen months imprisonment with an option of paying back the sum of N200,000.
