Woman docked for injuring fiancee genital

A 27-year-old woman, Omolewa Adedugbagbe, has been remanded in Surulere prison, Ondo town, for assaulting her fiancee, by inflicting injury on his private part.
The Ondo Chief Magistrates’ Court presided over by Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of the accused till March 8, 2019 for bail consideration.
The police had dragged Adedugbagbe before the court on Wednesday for unlawfully and indecently assaulting his fiancee, one Segun Gbadebo, by holding his private part and inflicting injury on him.
The accused, who is facing a two- count charge, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
She was said to have committed the offence on the February 9, 2019, contrary and punishable under section 353 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The police prosecutor, Gbenga Akinsulire told the court that the accused assaulted her fiancee on February 9, 2019, at about 8:00pm at No 19b, Ododibo street, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District.
The charge read in part,”That you Omolewa Adedugbagbe on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District unlawfully assaulted one Segun Gbadebo, by holding his private part and inflicting injury on him and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 355 of the criminal code cap 37 volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
Akinsulire informed the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case and applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Lawyer for the accused, Mr Israel Ikumenisan, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in most liberal terms.
But the Magistrate, Mrs Fadeyi, who refused to grant the accused bail, ordered his remand in prison custody.
She adjourned the case till March 8, 2019 for consideration of bail and trial.
