A middle-aged woman, Mrs Kudi Arowolo has been arrested by the police in Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State in connection with the sudden death of her late husband, Adeola Arowolo.
The Hope Metro gathered that the suspect who had been married to the deceased for over 20 years was apprehended following the mysterious death of the man.
The deceased, until his untimely death was a staff of the Ondo State Veterinary Services and resided with the family in Oke-Aro, Akure, the state capital.
Kudi, a primary school teacher in Akure and the four children she bore for her husband were accused of locking the deceased in the house and beating him whenever there was a disagreement.
The man and his wife were said to be natives of Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government area of Ondo State.
A resident living close to their house revealed that each time the suspect and the children were beating the man, they would prevent neighbours from moving close to the house.
A man who craved anonymity, related that “On the fateful day, we overheard the man shouting as usual and we all knew they were giving him the beating of his life.
At a stage, we didn’t hear his voice again, so, we thought they had stopped beating him. However, we noticed that the man didn’t come of the house for some days.
“It was later a man very close to the family disclosed that on that particular day, the woman hit the deceased on his head with a plank and had been ill.
All we noticed was that one evening, she brought a cab and took her husband away. We didn’t know her whereabouts until we heard of his death.
A member of the deceased’s family told The Hope Metro that for over two years they did not set their eyes on him, until the wife told them he is dead.
According to the man, each time the family called the suspect’s phone, it was always switched off saying, they got her other number from a neighbor.
The man narrated in tears, “Whenever we got in touch with her to ask about our son, she would just say he was fine and switched off her phone.
“It was later we got an information, from neighbours that the woman had taken the deceased away.
“Luckily, when we eventually got through to her, she claimed that her husband was ill. She lied that he had brain surgery and had been taken from one hospital to the other, whereas neighbours told us that she hit him on the head with a plant and took him to an unknown place.
“The next story, she would tell us on October 10, 2021 was that our son is dead, and she switched off her phone.
“When all efforts to reach her failed, we went back to their house. It was then the neighbours told us she had ran away.
She was said to have informed the family of the decased at Ikare of her intention to bury her husband last week Saturday and that the corpse was at FMC, Ido-Ekiti.
The family, having gotten wind of her intention secured an arrest warrant on the suspect.
She was arrested at Ido-Ekiti and taken to Ado-Ekiti where she is currently cooling off her heels.
Some family members who spoke with our correspondent described the deceased as a very quiet and loving man.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu, told our correspondent that he was yet to be properly briefed.
