Properties worth millions of naira have been lost to the political crisis that ensued in Igangan, a community in Atakumosa East local council development area of Osun state.

It was gathered that the crisis ensued on Sunday February 17, 2019, when some youths, suspected to be political thugs invaded the community and burnt five houses.

A women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the local government area, Mrs Salawu Muibat, said she lost about N25million to the crisis.

When The Hope visited the town, families and friends of the victims of the houses burnt were trooping in to sympathize with them.

Speaking with The Hope,  Muibat said, “it was about 8pm on Sunday night when I heard a gun shot. I was with my children at home when I saw the house of my brother, Chief Agbara, who is the Chairman of APC already on fire.

“I received a call that I should run away. I was escaping through the bush when I heard go and burn her house.

“They ate rice and beans with chicken that we prepared for dinner before they set the house on fire.

“I am a Chief in the palace. I am the leader of fruit sellers. I am also the leader of Muslim women in the town. I had money kept with me by those groups I lead. I have N5m cash aside my husband’s 200 gallons of palm oil, motorcycle and a drum of honey. They stole my son’s laptop, broke the box and took money before they set the house on fire.

Also speaking, the Loye of Igangan Ijesa, Oba Thomas Lucas, expressed sadness over the incidence saying he has never witnessed such crisis since he ascended the throne about 32 years ago.

The monarch said he has met people and appealed to them not to be distracted by the crisis and come out on Saturday to cast their votes.

Also, the High Chief Obasola Olalere, said “we heard that cultists came to Igangan and they started shooting. They came from neighbouring town, Iwara. Our hunters could not face them because they came with pump action gun.
