By Fatimah Muraina
Governments across the globe have been enjoined to give adequate funding to reproductive health issues as investing in these rights and maternal, newborn and child health would ensure   equal and prosperous world.

The declaration was made at the 2019 women Deliver conference held in  Vancouver, Canada as the Minister of Canada, Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau injected $1.4billion to support women annually.

This was contained in a press statement issued during the conference which was made available to The Hope.

Trudeau’s initiative was to support women and girls’ health around the world.

He stressed the importance of governments stepping up to support feminist advocates on the frontline around the world.

His words:” Advocates, like those of Women Deliver are leading in the fight for gender equality and women’s rights, and as a government, we have to stand with them as a partner and an ally”.

“All women, no matter where they live, should have access to safe , quality health care they needed”, he said.

In her reaction, the President of Women Deliver, Katja Iversen described the initiative as a historic investment in girls and women which she said will pay dividends for years to come.

According to her, not only will the investment save and better lives, but it will create a ripple effect that will lift up individuals, communities, countries and the whole economies.

She however applauded Canada for its commitment to a more gender equality world.
