The intensified lobby by women of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to get at least 108 members in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2023 general elections has been described as a welcome development.
The Ondo State Chairman Caretaker Committee of the party, Mr. Ade Adetimehin in an interview with The Hope said the development would engender gender parity in the party administration.
There are, at present, 11 women in the 360-member, House of Representatives, but the women representative in the party’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC, Stella Okotete, said the women are working towards having a platform that would produce at least three women federal representatives in each state in 2023.
Consequently, the APC women wing has inaugurated a lobby group to parley with party leaders and male politicians across the country.
Adetimehin, who urged them to be more active in the party activities said their aspiration could only be met through voting.
He said ” the aspiration cannot cause any misunderstanding because it is their legitimate right.
“They aspire, it is now left for people to accept their request . It is people that will vote and it is left for them (women) to present aspirants for political posts”
“As a chairman of the party I’m not oppose to it”
While further enjoining them to bear in mind and work towards it, Adetimehin affirmed that it was a good move that they should plan ahead for it to be realistic.
